What is a high load permit

The EonFibre network spans the length and breadth of New Zealand and if you are moving large structures by road, you may require a High Load Permit to prevent damage to our network. Typical high loads include houses, boats, machinery, and industrial structures. High Load Permits are issued by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, Types of overdimension vehicles and loads | NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (fact sheet 53a, direct link) who may require written approval from EonFibre before issuing them.

When do you need a EonFibre high load permit?

Loads up to 4.3 metres high are legally allowed on the road and do not require a High Load Permit or any EonFibre approval. There are differing requirements for loads higher than 4.3 metres which are dependent on the height of the load.

Height requirements: Loads above 4.3

For Loads above 4.3 metres high: EonFibre approval is required in all instances where the load is above 4.3 metres. The High Load Operator needs to confirm if there are any EonFibre network obstructions – e.g. overhead cables across roads and driveways – that could be impacted on all the route and notify us. We will check the network that has been identified on the proposed route and if the load is clear to the height required, a permit will be issued. If the route is not clear, we will issue instructions in the permit and an escort may be required and manage the obstructions. Contact us if unsure

EonFibre network obstruction management

Where we need to manage obstructions, by dropping or raising the EonFibre network in order for the load to proceed, we will need to charge you for an escort. These are normally charged based on the time, materials, and vehicles required. The High Load approval will not be issued until the escort estimate has been signed and accepted by you. Please contact us for further instructions
